Espoo residents can fish freely with a live bait and jig. Nets and other fixed traps require specific permits that are sold only to Espoo residents. Permits for fishing with a lure are also sold to Espoo's visitors. Permits can be purchased from the city's joint service points, and a map of the fishing waters is included in the price.

The fishing areas covered by the same permit total 8 000 hectares, around the Espoo seafront and the Bylandet island in Kirkkonummi. Tens of thousands of sea trout and pike fry are introduced to these areas every year.
